Tsampa (Barley) flour is very important source of food in Himalayan belt, it gives good amount of energy and it fills up your stomach. In earlier times most of the people in Ladakh use to consume barley flour for meals and also along with tea and local beer. This amber tsampa pot is for storing barley flour. This is a well decorated pot made of amber and silver work done on top with semi-precious stones embedded. A pot like this would be used by royal family or an aristocrat, common people would used pot made of wood.
