This is called a “Gau” which means an amulet. It is a travelling shrine, used by people in earlier times for their safety while travelling to far off places for trade or pilgrimage. It is tied down to the side of the abdomen so that it stays with the person while travelling on a horse.

This is a shrine of a Manjushri, god of wisdom and knowledge. He carries a flaming sword on the right hand and beside the left hand, there’s a book sitting on a Lotus flower. He is in a temple safeguarded by the two dragons on the pillar. At the bottom, we have the jewels offered to Buddha. At the back, we have the Kalachakra symbol.  This is made of Bronze; it’s quite an old piece. It is Handmade in Ladakh.
