This drum is considered as the abode of the Dakinina and the sound that it produces is supposed to be the sound of impermanence and each Side of the drums are made to represent the construction and destruction of the Universe, a direct Association of Lord Shiva.
They are commonly used by Tibetan monks during prayers and are usually made out of leather and though initially they were produced using human skulls another significance of impermanence.
